Annual review
Jubilee Debt Campaign call for 100% cancellation of unpayable and unfair poor country debts. We were delighted to be asked to design their latest annual report booklet.
Annual review
On a tight schedule and limited budget, we made the most of strong, campaign-driven photos contrasted with a simple, two-colour feel layout.
Annual review
Making the yearly budget look a bit more attractive…

Footsteps
Wingfinger has been producing Footsteps magazine for Tearfund over the last 20 years. Starting life as a health newsletter, Footsteps is now a highly-valued collection of articles, information and resources produced in four language editions. This is a recent French verison. There is more about our approach to international resources and language documents in this case study.
Footsteps
A detail from an article on natural pesticides (in Spanish). The magazines cover a huge range of issues from nutrition to microenterprise. Here we added colour into simple line illustrations supplied by the client to create a lively pull-out poster spread.
Footsteps
Another centre spread (this one in English) from a recent edition on managing daily risk. The colourful snakes and ladders illustration forms a pull-out board game intended for use as an educational resource.
Footsteps
Detail from the recent 20th anniversary edition, featuring engrossed Footsteps readers! The magazine is read across the world – in print, downloaded from CD Roms and Tearfund’s website, and through local translations. We utilise years of experience and expertise for the job, and you can read more about our process of designing for multiple languages in this context in our case study.
Parent support work
Coalition for the Removal of Pimping is a small but amazing charity dedicated to combating sexual exploitation. This document focuses on support for parents affected by the exploitation of their children.
Parent support work
Parts of this guide make grim reading. Throughout, the pages follow a simple layout with a limited palette for quick reference and clear navigation.
Commonwheels handbook
Handbook detailing procedures and information for members of a car-share organisation. The shape of the handbook is taken from our design for Commonwheels’ logo.
Commonwheels handbook
Laying out the inside spreads of the car-shaped pages was quite a challenge!
Working on the margins
A report by relief and development charity Tearfund on motivating community responses to HIV/AIDS. Using their existing branding, we produce many such reports and case studies for use at conferences and for briefing policy-makers.
Working on the margins
Inside spreads were bright and clean with well-defined text areas, making it easily adaptable to different languages and low-budget reproduction.
Working on the margins
Examples of other booklets and brochures designed around Tearfund branding guidelines. There is a description of how we approach international resources in our case studies.
HYMS prospectus
A successful redesign of a prospectus for the recently opened Hull York Medical School. The prospectus had to hold its own against literature from other well-established universities and appeal to its primary target of sixth formers.
HYMS prospectus
The inside design for the prospectus combined faded cut-outs and custom diagrams with bold, close-cropped photos and a clean text layout. We’ve maintained this same visual approach across all the student manuals, folders and handbooks Wingfinger have designed for the school.
HYMS prospectus
Another spread, including a multi-coloured version of a timetable taken from a library of undergraduate student workbooks we designed for HYMS.
Powerful connections
A publication for the Yorkshire and Humber Regional Forum evaluating the involvement of the voluntary sector at various levels of decision-making across the region.
Powerful connections
You can read more in our case study on how we injected a bit of light relief into the subject matter using bespoke illustration, a gentle colour scheme and friendly diagrams.
FCC News
A twice-yearly 16-page newsletter produced on a tight budget. Workers from church projects in China are invited to submit stories sharing their views, news and successes.
FCC News
We enjoy being able to use graphics and artwork from China for this magazine design, including these mascots from the Beijing Olympics.
FCC News
We also have access to a lovely range of traditional papercuts that allow us to introduce some delicate detailing across FCC literature.
Unfinished business
A 40-page full colour report charting the history and achievements of the Jubilee Debt Campaign after ten years. We were delighted to do this job, having been involved in the early days with the Jubilee 2000 campaign. JDC is a coalition calling for the cancellation of poor country debt.
Unfinished business
To squeeze maximum impact from a tight budget, we did some careful juggling of page layouts. The outcome was a smooth integration of colour photo pages throughout a largely two-colour job.
Adult social care
A six-page A5 leaflet for Leeds City Council. Although this design had to stay within rigid branding guidelines, we combined bright and lively photos into montages to introduce a bit of life, and to give a feel for the wide-ranging Adult Social Care sector.
Adult social care
Another carefully-crafted montage on the inside of the leaflet.
Every Carer Counts
A recent, full-colour A4 booklet for Leeds City Council social care sector. This document had to be direct and accessible for all its intended readers, from councillors through to careworkers and volunteers.
Annual review
An annual review for Canon Collins Trust, a not-for-profit organisation building the skills and expertise of professionals and students to provide leadership and drive development in southern African communities.
Annual review
Inside spread from the annual review – a lively combination of photos and boxed quotes of experiences to reflect the organisation’s background
Surgery in primary care
A 280-page benchmark publication for the Association for Perioperative Practice. This book contained guidelines on everything from what shoes to wear in the operating theatre to how to avoid setting patients on fire.
Surgery in primary care
We used a photomontage header for each chapter to introduce some graphic interest among text-heavy pages.
